ABOUT ME

I am a registered clinical psychologist in private practice in Hillcrest, KwaZulu Natal.

After completing my schooling, I obtained a Bachelor of Primary Education degree through the former Natal University (currently University of KwaZulu Natal). I taught at primary school level for the next 6 years. Although I enjoyed my time teaching, I knew this was a stepping stone to a career in psychology. So during my teaching years I completed a psychology major and my Bachelor of Arts, Honours in Psychology through Unisa. Then followed my Masters in Clinical Psychology through the University of Limpopo, with the internship component being completed through the Department of Behavioural Medicine, Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine. After my Community Service at GJ Crookes Hospital in Scottburgh, I entered private practice.

Qualifying as a clinical psychologist did not end my journey of learning. I discovered schema therapy and completed my South African Diploma in Schema Therapy in 2016. My interest in schema therapy combined with my passion for working with eating disorders, led me to embark on the journey of a PhD with the topic focusing on schema modes in eating disorders. This PhD in Psychology was obtained through Rhodes University in 2021. With my PhD completed, I could focus on my certification in schema therapy. Thus in 2022 I certified as an advanced schema therapist with the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST). This was followed by my certification as an ISST supervisor in early 2024 and, finally, an ISST trainer in 2025.

During my career as a clinical psychologist I have presented seminars on eating disorders to the psychology masters’ students at the University of KwaZulu Natal, Howard College campus. I have also supervised clinical psychology interns at the King Dinizulu Hospital.In August 2024 I presented at the first CBTASA conference in Cape Town. Then, in 2025, I presented an online talk for World Schema Therapy Day.

I am currently registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF). I am a member of the ISST and an executive member of the Schema Therapy Institute of South Africa (STISA).
